Have you ever watched an industry transform and say “I wish I had thought of that (think Facebook, Netflix, etc.). Well, here’s your chance … before it happens. Healthcare is about to undergo its largest worldwide metamorphosis in our lifetime. In the past, we have allowed others to make … and profit from ... revolutionary changes while we as doctors and healthcare leaders reacted to those shifts.
As Buckminster Fuller said, “You never transform things by changing the existing reality. To transform something, make a new reality that makes the old way obsolete.” We have everything it takes to lead that future rather than waiting for “the next big thing.” So what are the new technologies, quality initiatives, physician and nurse changes, and hospital culture changes that need to occur?
As the President and CEO of Philadelphia-based Thomas Jefferson University and Jefferson Health, Stephen K. Klasko, a past president of our Maimonides Society, was recently featured in Philadelphia Magazine and as a TED talk presenter.
THE AMBUCYCLE is a nimble, versatile and speedy vehicle designed to help emergency first responders bring lifesaving care in the fastest possible time on Israel’s crowded streets. With the help of ambucycles, the more than 2,500 volunteers throughout Israel who remain on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year have an average response time of just 3 minutes. Growing the fleet of ambucycles will reduce the response time even further and reach unserved areas of the country.
Each vehicle includes emergency medical equipment found in a typical ambulance. On average, an ambucycle responds to approximately 800 calls every year, savings hundreds of lives in the process.
Proceeds from this year's gala will help the Maimonides Society purchase an ambucycle.
Learn more about how ambucycles are used to save lives in this TEDMED Talk.
The Maimonides Society of the Jewish Federation of the Lehigh Valley provides the opportunity for healthcare professionals to serve both the Jewish and general community locally and overseas through philanthropy, visiting physician programs, medical service and educational opportunities. The first of its kind, the Lehigh Valley chapter has served as an example for Jewish communities across North America. For 30 years, the Maimonides Society has been at the forefront of both philanthropy and service, with members providing pro bono medical care to refugees settling in the Lehigh Valley. The society is proud of its role in providing needed equipment to medical facilities in Israel and Ukraine.
